My Mystic Messages with Angels and Ancestors Oracle Cards

By Katta Mapes, Your Psycho-Spiritual Guide and Xplorer

“Guardians of the four corners, mother in the earth, father in the sky, angels, ancestors, sacred ones, a common you and welcome you here now.” – Kyle Gray

While I typically use the Universal Waite Tarot Deck for readings, when I want insight into my day I choose a different deck each month for my daily card pull. This month I chose to explore a shamanistic perspective for insight this month using this deck: Angels and Ancestors Oracle Cards: A 55-Card Deck and Guidebook by Kyle Gray (Author) and Lily Moses (Illustrator).

My sister studies with a Shaman wise woman in Maine, Kaye Lawrence ( ), and I have become intrigued with the ancestor work found in shamanism. Ancestor work is an integral part of Shamanism, acknowledging the importance of honoring and connecting with our lineage. It involves establishing a relationship with our deceased ancestors, seeking their guidance, wisdom, and healing. By engaging in practices like meditation, trance journeys, and rituals, Shamans connect with those who have passed on, bridging the gap between the physical and spiritual realms. Through this work, they gain insight into ancestral patterns, traumas, and gifts that influence their present lives. By recognizing, healing, and honoring their ancestors, Shamans cultivate a deeper understanding of themselves, their heritage, and their role within the collective human experience.

Angels and Ancestors Oracle Cards covers an array of ancestor work with angels interspersed in the deck with incredibly rich illustrations on each card.

  • Sacred Ones

  • Guardians and Messengers

  • Warrior Symbols

  • Seasons

To receive my Mystic Message for the day I choose a card in the morning. To prepare for the card pull I take a moment to get centered. Then I shuffle the cards while saying this intention that is written on the inside of the box:

“I set the intention that whatever is gained from the lessons learned from this tool will be dedicated to the growth of all beings in all places.”

I love this intention because it implies a connection with all our relations and a sense of Oneness with all that is, was, and shall be.

Once I pull the card I look at the images and messages on the card for insight into how this will be a part of my day. Then I set the card where I will see it all day as a reminder.

In the evening I take time to look at the card and reflect on how it applied to my day. In addition to my own thoughts about this I read the card interpretation found in the guidebook that came with the card deck.

Here is one of My Mystic Messages:

I pulled this card. This excited me first just on the colors. I call these peacock colors because they are like the colors on male peacock feathers, which I love.

The call for protection reminded me to do my daily practice of using a protection prayer to create a dome of protection around me and one each for my car and home and property.

In my evening reflection on this card, I recalled that during the day I had two close calls as I drove to and from town on the freeway.

When I read the booklet description it opened a whole new understanding of the card and it’s meaning in my life. First it said to “drop any Shields of shame, resistance and fear that are standing between you and your chances of enjoyment and fun.” It then went on to explain that the Protection Guardian is basically a female version of Archangel Michael that I can call on to release unnecessary fears, knowing that I can always ask for and receive angelic protection. This added a whole new dimension to the idea of spiritual protection to my understanding.

In my Tarot classes I ask students to pull a card daily to get their Mystic Message while also learning more about the meanings of the cards in their chosen deck. This process gives us both:

  • Insights into our lives

  • A deep dive into our chosen card deck(s)

Each month I will choose a different deck for My Mystic Messages.
