  • Interpersonal Intelligence – Connecting with Others, Communicating with Others, Cooperating with Others, Handling Conflicts with Others




Students learn the skills through the curriculum and, then, apply them in theses ways:

  • For Teachers: Content area application ideas for each skill area taught in the curriculum
  • For Teachers and Counselors: Class meetings guide
  • For Administrators: A reflection sheet for those teachable moments when students make poor choices.
  • School Culture – Once all staff and students learn the skills, they can use them throughout all areas of the school.
  • Family Culture – Parent classes in these skills can bring them into the home for social-emotional well-being in the family.


About the Author


Katta Mapes is a retired bilingual counselor and author of two books on Social-Emotional Learning: “Stop! Think! Choose! Building Emotional Intelligence in Young People” (2000) and “A Manual for Teacher Training in Interpersonal Peacemaking” (1985). She is the founder of Creating Conscious Connections L.L.C. and is dedicated to promoting social-emotional well-being for all.

She offers her services in consulting, training and writing.
